Why ‘Of Foreign Build’?

Well apart from feeling very ‘foreign’ at the start of the story, this customs clearance form is one of my favourite pieces of paper, with a great description of me

‘…one female, foreign built…’

  3. Your story was captivating. The writing style, well it was like enjoying a classic. You should write an new fictional classic… but then again, real is so much more….real. 😉 So far this was the best read I’ve found in this genre on Kindle. Thank you so much for writing it.

    • My goodness Jim – you have made my day – thank you so much. I am working on my next story – Noel and I did some trekking with 5 horses (just Noel me and 5 wonderful beats!) – it is an incredible story – maybe you’d enjoy that too…. fiction after that! I so appreciate you taking the time to write… if you have the time/inclination I would be so grateful if you would put these words on the website from where you purchased my book. As an Indie author – reviews for others to read are so very important. Please stay in touch too!

    • Thanks Mal, I appreciate you taking the time to drop me a line – I am thrilled you enjoyed the book. I am releasing another book in May “A Standard Journey” It is about trekking along the Bicentennial National Trail with five rescued horses – without support – for several months. Thereafter, I plan to release the story of going to America to buy a boat and sail it back to Australia. Hoping to have this one out later this year. Thanks again, if you are comfortable putting your words on Amazon that would be a great help. Drop by and say ‘hi’ again! Regards, Jackie

  5. I soaked up every precious word of Of Foreign Build, so glad to find a genuine real passionate female sailor and to think I could have missed out on all that is Jackie and Noel! A Boatbooks Australia brochure picked up ‘somewhere’ led me to you. My husband and I are very new to sailing, only a few months into out sailing dream of living and sailing on our yacht. Frustratingly but necessarily still on land until later in the year, surrounded by male sailing dominance, grabbing every opportunity to crew with our local Yacht Club and with a friend on his boat. The better we get, the further we’ll go. I’m longing to get my just ordered Cruisers AA! Thanks to you our dream is even more alive.

    • Hi Alice, Thanks so much for your lovely email. I am thrilled you enjoyed Of Foreign Build and I am even more thrilled that you are setting off on your own journey! How wonderful. I read you note out to Noel this morning and we both reminisced about how hard we found it to get going, but it was all about just untying and going – it WAS that simple! I love your comment on ‘the better we get, the further we go’ it is a great thought, and what we found was that getting away from the Australian coast was such a relief. Sailing there is THE hardest sailing we did, get away from a big landmass and all those currents and it gets easier and easier – it blew me away! Oh, I could chat for ages, am so excited for you! Do stay in touch and let us know how you go – if ever you just want to ‘chat’ please just drop me a line. I’ve made many new friends who are in a similar position to you and it is great to now be part of their journey (from our Dutch barge!). (Thanks for the wonderful review on Boat Books too! :-), all the very best, Jackie (PS If you use FB there is a wonderful group called Women Who Sail Australia – they are the most supportive and friendly group, from people dreaming about sailing to sailing, it’s a wonderful resource too) 🙂

    • Thanks so much for your lovely email and taking the time to write. I am delighted that you enjoyed my story. I hope to finish writing about our second boat Pyewacket, and how we found her in America and sailing her home to Australia via Easter Island, Pitcairn etc… a tough, but exciting journey. I do hope you get out on the water again – there’s nothing quite like it, is there?

  7. Great pictures, loved reading the book! Massive inspiration. We’ve just bought a 34 ketch and living on it. Both of us are new to sailing. Our plan is to learn and hopefully in 2 years time carry out our own adventure. Can’t wait to hear about your second boat.

    • Hi Ben, thanks so much for taking the time to drop me a line. I am thrilled you enjoyed the book…. the next one (on our other boat) will be out -hopefully- before the end of the year. It is coming along nicely! If you haven’t already, I’d love you to put those words down on a review on Amazon… Best of luck with your plans, do let us know how you go and anytime you want to chat/ask for advice, just drop us a line…. fairwinds!

  8. I just finished reading your book on my kindle and came looking for some pictures. Thank you for posting them. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and have just bought another of your books. But first I think I want to read it again with the pictures to refer to. Thanks for a wonderful, inspiring book.
