I like stripping

We’re almost naked… well, that’s to say the interior of the boat is almost naked! We’ve taken down nearly all the walls and are now trying to figure out how to put them back.

We have a few neat ideas that should produce enough space for an island-bed and another full double (with walk-around space on two sides – that’s plenty for guests!).

We will put in another toilet, so the master cabin will have its very own, private, loo. And we’ve even found some wardrobe space and we can leave the main part of the hallway/corridor where it is.

Our 'cabins' are gone!

We had great fun when a copper pipe for the central heating split this week. Remember watching those comedy skits on TV, where the comedian is sliding around the floor, trying to hold back the force of water from a broken pipe, and letting go, so a great geyser of water sprays everywhere? We’ve found that those scenes ARE NOT exaggerated. Our central heating system is under pressure, so the water and greasy/oily anti-foul produced a wonderful fountain up the wall, windows, on the ceiling, carpet…. how lovely.

Noel fixed the pipe and then continued demolishing the boat!

All is fixed now – so it’s back to demolishing the walls.

The construction is magnificent and exhausting - every piece of timber has been held in with excessive nails!

  1. Oh my, Jackie. I really feel for you! What a performance to go through while you’re living on it. I sooooo know that feeling! I’m not looking forward to seeing what you make of it!!

  2. Wow it looks like you have got HEAPS of space! Probably even more so now that you have ripped everything out! I am sure it will be amazing when you are finished!

  3. Yes, compared to a sailboat Viki, there is – but so badly used. When we looked at the boat we knew we’d have to re-design it – and I’m glad we lived on it for a good few months before we started…. our ideas have changed a lot. It is exciting – we’ll have a great cabin and a lounge – finally whoo hoo! There’ll be lots more photos – we’re trying to calm the ‘ripping out; down now! ha ha !

  4. I like the headlight on Noel’s forehead – him with the mad look and the electric screwdriver!!! It adds to the atmosphere there!!

  5. That picture of the wood with all the nails. Reminds me of the saying “If you don’t know knots; do lots”
“If you don’t know nails; bang in more” . Can’t say the process of refit is fun – done 2 on my boat now, 10 years apart, but the end is worth the effort.
So when do Karen and I book our tickets to France to try out the guest stateroom? 🙂
    Take care out there.

  6. Ha Ha Michael, that is exactly what I said. All day long we are holding up bits of wood saying, ‘take a look at this!’ It is funny and annoying, so much harder! It’s not too bad on board – as we have a fair bit of room (in comparison to the sail boats we had) still, it is a bit chaotic, but we are making progress, next the stainless steel water tank comes out – putting in a new one under the bed – we are making progress and keep having ideas – the end result – if we ever get there – will be great – a good home. You’ll have to get in the queue re: coming on board – I am having to buy a diary just to keep up with everyone – and we are planning to do some training on board….. that said if you are over this way…. 🙂
